Theresa K. wrote, "I sold all rights to my first book because I was desperate to be published. The publishers did a wonderful job, the book looked great, but it was like giving a child up for adoption. Since its publication, the book has been reprinted several times and has sold ab copies; it is now packaged with a CD.   With no bonds, cash, CDs, or whole life insurance, that’s a pretty aggressive portfolio with a sizeable small tilt. Obviously it can always be more aggressive, but what Dave gets right is that people need to take some significant risk in their portfolios. Without a ridiculously high savings rate and a long career, we simply cannot save our way to a comfy retirement.

And there would be no sense in trying to do that unless you and he had some sort of agreement as to what Right and Wrong are; just as there would be no sense in saying that a footballer had committed a foul unless there was some agreement about the rules of football. Now this Law or Rule about Right and Wrong used to be called the Law of Nature.   Right person. Just the wrong time. But in reality, there’s no such thing. On the one hand: Yes, Context Is King. There are totally going to be people you date due to timing — people who represent what you need most at that point in your life; people who look and feel like living and breathing manifestations of what you want.

I knew he was working on a new book, and I knew I would read it, but I was unprepared for how engaging, provoking, and inspiring this book, Intelligent Disobedience: Doing Right When What You’re Told Is Wrong, would be. The term “Intelligent Disobedience” is used in guide-dog training: dogs who are trained companions to disabled people. “With math as with anything else, there’s smart, and then there’s street smart. This book will help you be both. Fans of Freakonomics and The Signal and the Noise will love Ellenberg’s surprising stories, snappy writing, and brilliant lessons in numerical savvy. How Not to Be Wrong is sharp, funny, and right.”.
