I like how the main character has a choice. be a friend, or go follow the crowd. this kind of made me reflect on a quote. “if you are given the choice between being right and being kind, choose kind.”. My Friend is Sad by Mo Willems ( link) My favorite of the Elephant and Piggie books, and one of the best for very beginning readers. When Piggie sees that Gerald is sad, she tries to cheer him up by dressing as a cowboy, a clown, and a robot, but only makes him feel worse. I had the kids say the repeated “Ohhhhh”s along with Gerald.
